Starting The Colorado Kid
I'm about to start reading The Colorado Kid by Steven King this week. I'm going to use this book as the first book in the brand new Blog Oklahoma Goodreads Group. If you are interested, please feel free to join me at Goodreads to talk about The Colorado Kid.

My Yearly Reading List
Went through my library yesterday and pulled out every book I'm going to read this year. I've posted them over at Goodreads to help keep track. Three of these are rereads so if I don't get to them this year it's okay. This list doesn't count any Audible books I'm listening to or any technical manuals I need to read. It's going to be a busy year.
The funny thing is Donna reads this many books in three weeks. Ha!
I apparently write like Harry Harrison
Found a shortcut around slow road to iPhone 3G iOS4 upgrade
I upgraded D's iPhone 3G to iOS4 using a different method than the standard long road upgrade route. If you read a couple of post earlier you'll see it took over 3 hours to upgrade my iPhone 3G. This time I used the restore to original settings method to upgrade her iPhone 3G. If you do a web search you'll find a few posts on people doing their 3G upgrades using this method. It's basically: make sure your iPhone 3G is synced and backed up, download the latest iOS update, stop upgrade procedure after iOS4 is downloaded, click on the "Restore" button to restore the iPhone to original settings (this will use iOS4), after upgrade done, restore your apps, music, etc. from your backup, and then reboot your iPhone one more time. This is a broad overview. Please do some research on your own before going this route. If you are uncomfortable doing this, take the slow road. It's annoying, but it gets the job done.

The incredibly slow road to update my iPhone 3G to iOS 4
Well I finally got my iPhone 3G upgraded to iOS4. It only took an incredible 3 1/2 hours to complete.
Since I knew the backup part was going to take so long, I went ahead and unsynced all the music, podcasts, picture folders, and videos. That shrank my 8 GB iPhone down to 1.5 GB.
The backup portion of the upgrade was an agonizing 2 hour and 21 minute long wait.
Once the backup part completed the upgrade went well. It actually took, oh, about 10 or 15 minutes to complete. A reasonable amount of time for this kind of update.
I did have to manually restart my iPhone after all the updates finished. Right after the apps finished restoring, the phone became slow and sluggish. A quick reboot, and the phone working great now.
Who ever at Apple okay'ed the release of this update for 3G's needs to be forced to write everyone a very long apology letter explaining why the backup routine was so broken. Apple should know better. I've talked with people who have the 3GS iPhone, and they completed their updates in a matter of minutes. Minutes, not hours.
They need to fix this, and soon. I'm sure there are thousands of 3G owners out there who think their systems have locked up.
I'm so disappointed in you right now Apple.
That said, spell checking is working, folders are great, and I look forward to all the other improvements Apple's rolled out for 3G users with iOS4.
