I've made a decision this morning. I'm no longer going to actively post to Facebook or keep up with it's newsfeed. I just don't want too anymore. I'm not finding it engaging or worthwhile. That and I discovered not long ago I get more out of Google+ and Twitter than I ever did with Facebook.
I think there were two things that brought me to this decision.
One was Facebook changing my email address in my profile to their email service, something I never used in the first place. This being just one of many missteps Facebook has taken that has irked me in one way or another.
And the other, it being political season, you get to see all your fringe relatives and friends come out of the right wing woodwork shouting, “tyranny,” and other incorrectly used republican tea party nut job buzz words. I really have no time for that kind of nonsense. Plus I would like to see some of these people again at various family functions. I would not like to have to carry around a rolled up newspaper and resist the urge to bonk them on the head and yell, “Wrong!”
Now I'm not planning to drop my Facebook account. I have too many Facebook Pages I still need to maintain, and I do use Facebook's log in and various function with other web sites and services. There are a few services out there you just can't use without a Facebook account.
I've taken the small step in disconnecting Twitter from auto posting to Facebook. In a round-about way I'm also disconnecting Google+ from Facebook, since I'm relaying Google+ to Twitter. I could have easily kept that connection, but it just didn't feel right to do so.
I'm also taking the symbolic step in moving the Facebook app off the first page on my iPhone. Facebook's apps are too slow and not very functional at times anyway.
If you find Facebook useful, good for you, I don't.
If you would like to connect with me I'm on Google+ and Twitter. I hope you join me there.
