2026 Spooky Season Watch List

Every year, we like to plan what we’ll watch in October. Last year we watched all the classic Universal horror movies like Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Wolf Man. The last time I did #blogmonth in October, it was all the Hammer horror movies, like The Horror of Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein, and The Curse of the Werewolf.

This year’s theme was inspired by a movie we watch every Spooky Season: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It felt fitting, especially with the passing of the wonderful Tim Curry. The first set of movies was mentioned in the opening song, Science Fiction Double Feature. Others serve as inspiration for, or were inspired by, Rocky Horror. And a few are just because we want to watch them. We’re not sticking with a specific genre this time; some are horror, sci-fi, fantasy, or comedy. Links to IMDB are provided.

• Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
• Flash Gordon (1936 Serial)
• The Invisible Man (1933)
• King Kong (1933)
• Doctor X (1932)
• Forbidden Planet (1956)
• Tarantula (1955)
• The Day of the Triffids (1963)
• Curse of the Demon (1956)
• When Worlds Collide (1951)
• The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
• Flash Gordon (Movie) (1980)
• Young Frankenstein (1974)
• Legend (1985)
• Clue (1985)
• The Old Dark House (1932)
• Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
• Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
• The Thing from Another World (1951)
• Them! (1955)
• Night of The Living Dead (1968)
• Return of the Living Dead Part II (1988)

You’ll find most of these on cable TV or streaming services like YouTube, Tubi, or Peacock. You’ll have to rent some from Amazon Prime, Google, or Apple.

We’re not watching these in any particular order; in fact, we have to wait for a few to be recorded from FXM on YouTube TV.

To get us started, we’re watching the 1936 Flash Gordon serial on YouTube, and to end the season, we’ll watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

So what do you think of our list?

PS: Sorry, I haven’t gotten to the comment system working yet. Please feel free to share your thoughts on our list, or share your own on Mastodon.
