American version of Eurovision?

According to the Eurovision Wikipedia entry and a few other articles (BBC | Variety | Slate) out there an American version of Eurovision may be on its way to NBC sometime this fall. I hope so. This style of show would blow American Idol (which I'm not a big fan of) out of the water.

I also hope next year we are able to watch Eurovision here in the States. If it isn't on TV, I hope we can see it via the net.

Donna and I watched all the performance (thanks to YouTube and Google Video) from this year's and enjoined them all (except for France and Iceland).
