One of the most important things you can do as a citizen is vote. Oklahoma is having it’s statewide primary on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The last day to register vote for that primary is Friday, June 3, 2016. You must be registered before then to vote in the primary. Otherwise you’ll need to wait until the next election date. The general election is not until Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Oklahoma had its presidential primary back in February. This upcoming primary is for local, state, and federal offices. (This is actually the more important primary IMHO) Oklahoma is a closed primary state, meaning you can only vote for the party you registered with unless the parties give special permission. Republicans can only vote in the Republican primary; Democrats and Independents can vote in the Democratic primary; and Libertarians and Independents can vote in the Libertarian primary. Independents can pick either Democrat or Libertarian, but cannot vote in the Republican primary. If you have any questions on how to register to vote, please visit ok.gov/elections or call your local county elections board.
