You may have heard YouTube's Restricted Mode started to filter out some LGBTQ+ content that shouldn't have been filtered. It didn't take long for news to spread on this. Here's an example of the reaction: #ProudToBeRestricted | Gigi Gorgeous
YouTube has responded, apologized, saying it was a mistake, and are going to fix it.
There is no reason for this kind of restriction. I'm glad this got the attention it did, and I'm glad YouTube responded and are working to fix it.
Here's YouTube's response:
YouTube Creator Blog: Restricted Mode: How it works and what we can do better
We are so proud to represent LGBTQ+ voices on our platform--they're a key part of what YouTube is all about. The intention of Restricted Mode is to filter out mature content for a tiny subset of users who want a more limited experience. LGBTQ+ videos are available in Restricted Mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues many not be. We regret any confusion this has caused and are looking into your concerns. We appreciate your feedback and passion for making YouTube such an inclusive, diverse, and vibrant community. — YouTube Creators (@YTCreators)
