Spooky season movies continue this weekend. If you haven’t been following along, please follow me on Mastodon or see my list on Letterboxd. I watched three movies today: Dracula’s Daughter (1936), Itsy Bitsy (2019), and Silent Hill (2006).
Dracula’s Daughter, a follow-up to 1931’s Dracula, was good. Gloria Holden was perfect in the role. I feel it could have been done with less comedy and more horror, but it was still a gripping story of addiction. Be sure to include Dracula’s Daughter in your next Universal Monster marathon.
Itsy Bitsy is a giant spider movie. Well, giant, as in dog-sized, but still. Dog-sized spiders would make me run away, screaming. Heck, regular-sized spiders do that. (shiver) The creature effects were outstanding, and each scene with the spider had spooky tension. The storyline, though, was meh. I could have done without the family melodrama. It wasn’t needed. And Walter’s storyline fell short. I won’t spoil the rest. The movie is worth watching for the spider alone.
Silent Hill is an okay movie based on a video game. The creature effects are creative. The story is okay. Sean Bean was wasted in this movie. A good watch for a Saturday afternoon while you’re folding laundry.
More later. I wonder what I'll watch next.
